In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir to combine. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Gradually pour in the chicken broth, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth.

Add the broccoli florets and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until the broccoli is tender, about 10 minutes.
